Marketing & Communications

Communicating the value of education is essential to my professional career. In addition to my experience in higher education advancement, I have served a number of institutions by marketing and communicating their achievements and their commitment to life-long learning. The following videos, images, and documents provide a sample of my work.

 Poetry is Power

I produced the Poetry is Power theatrical performance to help weave the then-interim president's personal history into the University of Missouri System's rich culture. Also, I produced and directed a video of the performance, related cast interviews, and a social media campaign composed of video teasers leading up to the performance. To stage the performance and create opportunities at all four campuses, I secured grant funding from the Olson Endowment for the Arts. The performance won a Bronze Telly Award; the Telly Awards is the premier award honoring outstanding content for TV and cable, digital and streaming, and non-broadcast distribution. Welcome President Choi

I produced this video to celebrate the first day for Mun Y. Choi, the new president of the University of Missouri System. I conceived of a multi-video social media campaign. I directed the taping of original content, created the scripts, obtained approvals, and executed the release. Click the Learn More button to see all videos. (See note at the bottom of this page.)

UM System At A Glance: Our Mission

I produced this and other "At a Glance" videos to help define the University of Missouri System's brand and to educate brand ambassadors. My responsibilities included conceiving of and producing the six-video campaign, as well as overseeing script and video approval. This video series allowed my strategic communications team to reinforce the brand and train brand ambassadors without spending funds on a full brand rediscovery. Details at https://www.umsystem.edu/glance. (See note at the bottom of this page.)

University of Missouri System Style Guide

During my time as brand manager, I directed the revision of the university's style guide, which sets standards for the brand's visual identity as well as guidelines for editorial style, use of the official seal, correspondence, and more. When confronted with limited resources that made a full brand rediscovery infeasible, I executed this and other brand management projects to reinforce the institution's brand. The "At a Glance" video series described on this same webpage was another such project. (See note at the bottom of this page.) View the guide.

System Solutions

I led my strategic communications team in executing this social media campaign, which explains how a system structure and how sharing services across multiple universities, creates a more efficient University of Missouri System. Citizenship@Mizzou

I helped produce this Citizenship@Mizzou video to introduce the program. Citizenship@Mizzou is a two-hour interactive program designed to introduce students to the values of the University of Missouri-Columbia and to the ways in which the university engages with issues of citizenship on a richly varied and diverse campus. Attendance at one session is mandatory for all new undergraduate students. Details at https://diversity.missouri.edu/education/citizenship.php. (See note at the bottom of this page.)

Lyrics of Influence

I produced this biopic to spark conversations within the university community upon the one-year anniversary of race-related student protests. I made more than a dozen presentations of the video to all university campuses as well as at annual conferences of the Association of Black Sociologists and the Critical Race Studies in Education Association. (See note at the bottom of this page.)

We Imagine

I produced these two videos—one featuring university leaders and the other featuring stakeholders throughout the community—to launch the system-wide diversity audit and to encourage a conversation about how to move the University of Missouri System toward the future we all imagine. The videos were distributed on Facebook and Twitter, as well as on the president’s blog. The stakeholders videos was used to conclude the president's 2016 State of the University address (See note at the bottom of this page.)

Pushing Change, Building Collaboration: A Dream Worth Having

I produced this video to celebrate the unique, 30-year partnership between the University of Missouri System and the University of the Western Cape in Cape Town, South Africa. My responsibilities included organizing interviews, supervising production, and executing the video’s release. Details at https://www.umsystem.edu/president/southafrica. Note: The caption for each video, image, and document explains which institution is associated with my work sample. I was an employee of the specified institution when the work sample was created. For example, if the caption specifies the University of Missouri-Columbia, then I was an employee of the University of Missouri-Columbia when the work sample was created. The referenced institution owns the work.
